How do I Import Contacts?
Add many contacts at once from an Excel or CSV file, or straight from your Google account.
Before You Start
- Create your groups first if you want the new contacts in groups. You choose from existing groups during the import.
- Existing contacts are updated, not duplicated. If a number in your import is already in your contacts, DartPro updates that contact.
Import from a Spreadsheet
1. Prepare Your File
- Use an Excel (
.xlsxor.xls) or CSV file. - Put column names in the first row.
- Name the mobile number column
mobileorphone. A file without one of these columns can't be imported. - Add any other columns you have: title, first name, other names, family name, email, gender and organization.
For example:
| mobile | first name | family name | organization | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 08012345678 | Ada | Obi | [email protected] | Acme Ltd |
| +2348098765432 | Tunde | Bello |
⚠️ Nigerian mobile numbers only
Spreadsheet imports accept Nigerian numbers written as 08012345678, 8012345678, +2348012345678 or 2348012345678. Spaces, dashes, dots and brackets are fine. Rows with any other number format are skipped.
- Gender:
maleormis saved as Male, andfemaleorfas Female. Anything else is saved as other. - Duplicates: remove repeated numbers from your file first, so you control which details are kept.
💡 Keep column names simple
Use only letters, numbers and spaces in column names. Punctuation, such as in E-mail, can stop that column's values from being read.
2. Upload the File
- Click Contacts in the left sidebar, then Import Contacts (Import on small screens). You can also click Import Contacts on a group's page.
- Under or Import from Spreadsheet, drop your file on Drop Excel or CSV File here to upload., or click that box to choose the file.
- Wait while DartPro uploads and analyzes the file. For large files, keep the page open until it's done.
DartPro then tells you how many unique contacts the file has and how many mobile numbers are duplicated.
3. Match Your Columns
Under Match fields on spreadsheet to Contacts fields, pick a Contacts Fields option for each column listed under Spreadsheet Fields:
- Title, First Name, Other Names, Family Name, Gender, Organization, Mobile or Email.
**Skipto leave the column out.
Match at least Mobile or Email, or the import won't start.
4. Choose Groups and Import
- Under Select Groups to Import the Contact Into, pick the groups for these contacts, or leave it empty.
- Click Import Contacts.
You'll see Contact Upload in Progress.... You can keep working while the import runs. If you picked exactly one group, DartPro opens that group.
5. Follow the Progress
The Contacts page shows Importing Contacts... with the percentage done. When the import finishes, you get a Contacts Import Completed notification and the list refreshes.
What Happens to Each Row
| If the row… | Then |
|---|---|
| Has a mobile number that's new to you | A new contact is created |
| Has a mobile number already in your contacts | That contact is updated with the row's values |
| Has no mobile number, but an email already in your contacts | That contact is updated |
| Has an unsupported number format | The row is skipped |
| Has neither a mobile number nor an email | The row is skipped |
| Has an invalid email, or a name longer than 64 characters | The row is skipped |
Imported numbers are saved in international format, for example 2348012345678. Contacts join the groups you picked and stay in any groups they were already in.

How Google Contacts Are Imported
- One contact per phone number. A Google contact with two numbers becomes two DartPro contacts with the same name.
- No phone or email, no import. Google contacts without either are skipped.
- Matches are updated. If a number is already in DartPro, that contact is updated. For entries with no number, DartPro matches on email.
- Local Nigerian numbers are converted. Numbers such as
08012345678are saved as2348012345678. Save international numbers in Google with their country code. - What's imported: name and title, phone numbers, email addresses, company, gender, and the first address and city.
Troubleshooting
"Invalid file: No "mobile" or "phone" column found." Rename your mobile number column to mobile or phone, then upload the file again.
"You must map at least one of Mobile or Email fields to proceed." Match your number column to Mobile, or your email column to Email.
Some contacts are missing after the import. Check those rows against the supported number formats, and make sure each row has a mobile number or an email.
Imported contacts don't show in the group yet. Open the group and click Refresh Data (the refresh icon).
"Your session has expired. Please try importing again." Too much time passed after connecting Google. Start the Google import again.
"No Contacts Found" The Google account you chose has no contacts. Try a different account.
