How do I Send SMS to Individuals?
Send a message to specific phone numbers or selected contacts, up to 2,000 recipients at a time.
Send a Message
Open the Compose Screen
- In DartPro, click Compose SMS and choose To Individuals.
- Or select contacts on the Contacts page, or on a group's page, and click Message. Their numbers are added for you.
Add Recipients
- Type a phone number in Type phone number or name and press Enter, then press Enter or type a comma.
- Or start typing a contact's name (at least 2 letters) and pick them from the suggestions.
- To add many at once, paste numbers separated by new lines or commas.
- To add people from a group, click Add Group Contacts (see Add Recipients from a Group).
- To remove the last recipient, press Backspace in the empty box. Click Clear to remove everyone.
Write the Message
- Type in Message Content. The counter under the box shows the encoding, the character count and the number of segments.
Choose a Sender ID
- Pick one in Sender ID.
Send Now or Later
- Keep Send Immediately, or switch to Schedule for Later and choose a Broadcast Time.
Check the Cost and Send
- Review the cost card. Click Calculate Exact Cost for a price based on your recipients' networks.
- Click Send Message, or Schedule Message if you're scheduling.
DartPro shows Message Sent. Follow the delivery in Campaigns.
Add Recipients from a Group
- Click Add Group Contacts.
- In Select Group, click a group. Use Search groups... to find it.
- Tick the contacts you want, or Select All, and click Add Selected. To add the whole group, click Add Everyone instead.
The numbers are copied into this message, so later changes to the group don't affect it. To message a whole group, especially a large one, use To Groups instead.
Recipient Rules
- Up to 2,000 recipients. Past that, DartPro shows Contact limit of 2000 reached. Use "Compose to Groups" for larger lists.
- Number format. International format, such as
2348031234567, is safest. Local numbers, such as08031234567, get your country's code added when the message is sent. - Each number once. A number you enter twice gets one message.
- Unreachable numbers aren't charged. Numbers that can't be routed are skipped.
- Contact names. Numbers saved in your contacts show the contact's name in the recipient list.
Message Length
| Encoding | Single message | Each segment of a longer message |
|---|---|---|
| GSM (standard letters, numbers and symbols) | 160 characters | 153 characters |
| Unicode (emoji and other special characters) | 70 characters | 67 characters |
A single Unicode character switches the whole message to Unicode. The counter then shows Unicode Encoding and the character that caused it. A message can be up to 1,071 characters long. For more, see How is Message Cost Calculated?.
What Happens After You Click Send
| You'll see | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Message Sent | Your message is on its way |
| Message Scheduled | It goes out at the broadcast time |
| Message Submitted | It's being reviewed before delivery, for example because you used the Cecula sender ID |
If a promotional message falls in Do-Not-Disturb hours (8:00 PM to 8:00 AM), DartPro schedules it for 8:00 AM and tells you the new time.
Drafts
While you compose, DartPro saves your work as a draft about every 30 seconds. See How do I Use Drafts?.
