How do I Set Up SMS Routing?

Routing decides which gateway provider and route carries your messages. DartPro can choose a route for you, or you can pick a provider yourself. You set routing separately for each traffic type.

Open SMS Routing

Click Settings in the left sidebar, then open the SMS Messaging tab. Routing is in the SMS Routing section.

Traffic Types

Every message is sent as a traffic type. Only traffic types that have routes available appear on the tab.

Traffic typeUsed for
PromotionalMarketing and promotional messages
TransactionalAlerts, notifications and resets
OTPOne-time passwords
FinancialBank alerts and financial notifications
GovernmentGovernment notifications
CorporateCorporate messages
  • Configure each one. Click a traffic type at the top of SMS Routing to see or change its routing.
  • Set as Primary. Turn this on for the traffic type your messages should normally use. Its routing applies when you compose messages. Only one traffic type can be primary; if none is, Promotional is used.
  • Do-Not-Disturb hours. When your primary traffic type is Promotional, messages sent between 8:00 PM and 8:00 AM are scheduled for 8:00 AM.
  • Changing one message. To use a different provider or traffic type for a single message, use Advanced Options on the compose screen. See Advanced Options.

Choose a Routing Method

Under Select Routing Method, choose Smart Routing or Manual Routing.

Smart Routing

DartPro picks a route for each recipient's network. Choose an Optimization Goal:

  • Lowest Price: uses the cheapest route for the recipient's network.
  • Best Delivery: uses the route with the best record on the recipient's network, based on delivery rates and delivery feedback. If two routes score the same, the cheaper one is used.

With Best Delivery, the price can't be known in advance and may vary from message to message. Tick I understand that pricing may vary for high-delivery routes before you save.

Manual Routing

You choose the provider yourself.

  1. Select Manual Routing.
  2. Choose a provider in Select a Provider.
  3. Check Sender ID Approval Duration. It tells you how long sender IDs take to be approved on this route.
  4. If Compliance Documentation Required appears, click View Requirements, then upload the documents on the Compliance tab. See Compliance Documents.

Some providers need to approve sender IDs themselves. When you save, DartPro automatically submits your approved sender IDs to that provider.

  • Identity Approval Status tells you that approval can take up to 2 working days.
  • If your sender IDs are already approved with another provider, it may suggest switching back while you wait.
  • Until approval, those sender IDs aren't offered for messages sent through this provider.

Save Your Changes

Click Save Routing Changes. DartPro confirms Routing profile updated successfully.

Check Route Prices

Expand Route Pricing & Regional Rates to see current rates for the routing you've selected. Filter by provider or country, and compare rates in units, naira and US dollars.

Other Settings on This Tab

These settings apply to your whole account, not just the traffic type you've selected:

  • Billing & Currency Preference: pay with SMS units, or from your Cecula Wallet in naira or US dollars. See Recharging.
  • Scheduled Message Billing: charge scheduled messages In Advance or At Send Time. See How do I Schedule Messages?.

When a Route Isn't Available

  • Fallback to the default route. If your settings don't give a usable route, for example because the chosen provider is unavailable, DartPro uses Cecula's default route.
  • Template-only providers. Some providers only carry messages sent from templates. Typed messages that would go through them use the default route instead.
  • Numbers that still can't be routed show REMOVED in the campaign report and aren't charged.
