Catchup
Catchup is your channel's list of past broadcasts that viewers can watch on demand. It's available on plans that include recording.
Open Catchup
In the channel menu, click Catchup. Each card shows:
- the thumbnail and length
- the title, or Untitled Broadcast
- the date and time it aired
- the description
Entries are listed with the most recent air time first. Use Show … items per page to show 20, 50 or 100 at a time. Click a card to open its Recording Details. See How do I Manage Recordings?.
Where Catchup Entries Come From
| Source | How it's added | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Live broadcasts | Automatically, when Auto-record Stream is on | How do I Record My Broadcasts? |
| Scheduled broadcasts | With Add to Catchup when you schedule them, or Push to Catchup after they air | How do I Add Videos to Catchup? |
| Media Library videos | With Add to Catchup in the video's preview | How do I Add Videos to Catchup? |
| Merged recordings | By joining the parts of a split broadcast | How do I Merge Recordings? |
A live broadcast appears in Catchup as soon as it ends, and can be played once its recording has finished processing.
Catchup and Your Media Library
- Every entry plays a library video. Entries added from the library or the schedule use no extra storage.
- Entries have their own details. An entry's title, description and air time are its own. Editing the entry doesn't change the video in the library, and editing the video doesn't change the entry.
- Deleting an entry keeps the video. The video stays in your Media Library. To free storage, delete the video there.
- Deleting the video removes its entries. Deleting a video from the library also removes it from Catchup.
- Catchup needs the master copies. If a video's master copies are deleted to free up space, its Catchup entry can't play until you re-encode it.
How Viewers Watch Catchup
Catchup isn't listed on your watch page. Your website or app shows it using the Channel API's Catchup endpoint. That endpoint returns each entry's title, description, air times, length, thumbnail and HLS playback link, newest first. See How do I Use the Channel API?.
Who Can Use Catchup
Everyone on the channel can see Catchup. Owners, administrators and editors can edit, merge and delete entries; viewers can only look. See Roles.
