How do I Record My Broadcasts?
Cecula Stream can record your live broadcasts, so viewers can watch them later in Catchup. Owners and administrators can change recording settings.
Plans That Include Recording
Recording is only available on plans that include it. On other plans, the channel has:
- no Catchup screen
- no Recording & Catchup section on Live Stream
- no Record Feed button on Feeders
To record, move to a plan that includes recording. See Change Your Plan.
Turn On Auto-record
- In the channel menu, click Live Stream.
- Under Recording & Catchup, switch on Auto-record Stream. It's saved straight away.
⚠️ Switch recording on before you go live
Changing Auto-record Stream while a live feed is on air restarts the feed, and viewers see a brief cut.
What Gets Recorded
- Live feeds on air: recorded from when a live feed goes on air until it leaves air. This includes feeds put on air from the feeder pool.
- Switching feeds: switching between feeds in the pool keeps one continuous recording.
- Everything else: scheduled broadcasts, program episodes played from your library and playlists aren't recorded, because they're already in your library. To put a scheduled broadcast in Catchup, turn on Add to Catchup when you schedule it. See How do I Schedule a Broadcast?.
What Happens After a Broadcast
- The recording is added to your Media Library. It's named after the Live Event Title, or Recording: with the date and time if there's no title, and given your description. Its thumbnail is the program banner, or your show banner.
- It's processed into streaming versions, like an upload.
- It appears in Catchup once processing finishes. See How do I Manage Recordings?.
A broadcast made during a program episode's slot is filed under that episode. Recordings count towards your channel's storage.
Auto-merge Split Recordings
If your connection drops during a broadcast, the recording is split in two. Auto-merge joins the parts back into one video.
- Make sure Auto-record Stream is on. Auto-merge can't be switched on without it.
- Switch on Auto-merge Split Recordings.
- In Rejoin if the next recording starts within, enter the number of minutes, from 1 to 1,440. The default is 60. It's saved when you leave the field.
Recordings are only joined when:
- the next recording starts within the minutes you set
- both have the same title, location and description
- both were recorded after you switched auto-merge on
Recordings with a longer gap are offered for review on the Catchup screen instead. See How do I Merge Recordings?.
When Recording Is Switched Off for You
When the channel reaches 98% of its storage allowance, Auto-record Stream and Auto-merge Split Recordings are switched off automatically. The broadcast carries on; only the recording stops.
A warning icon appears next to Auto-record Stream. Point to it to read why. After you free space or add storage, switch recording back on. See When a Channel Runs Out of Storage.
Record One Feed Separately
To keep a recording of a single feed, such as one camera angle, use Record Feed on Feeders. That recording goes to your Media Library, not Catchup. See Record a Feed.
