Media Library

The Media Library holds your channel's videos and images. Everything your channel plays from files comes from here: playlists, scheduled broadcasts, program episodes and commercials. So do the images for your channel icon, poster and show banner.

Open the Media Library

In the channel menu, click Media Library.

  • Header: how many videos and images you have, and the Upload Media button.
  • Storage bar: how much of your storage allowance is used and what's using it. It also offers to free up old recordings.
  • Tabs: Videos and Images, each with its count.
  • Clips: one card per clip. Click a card to open its preview. Use Show … items per page at the bottom to show 20, 50 or 100 at a time.

What You Can Upload

TypeFormatsLargest file
VideoMP4, MOV, AVI, MKV2 GB
ImageJPG, JPEG, PNG, WEBP2 GB

Recordings of your live broadcasts are added to the library automatically. Their cards say Recording instead of Upload. See How do I Record My Broadcasts?.

How Videos Are Processed

Every video is processed before it can be used. Images are ready as soon as they're uploaded.

StageWhat happens
QUEUEDThe video is waiting for the encoder. Your channel processes one video at a time, so others wait their turn
CONVERTINGThe video is rewritten in the broadcast format your channel plays
BUILDING PREVIEWIt's cut into segments, so it can play in the library and in Catchup
PACKAGINGIt's encoded at each of your channel's output resolutions, so it can go to air without a live encoder

While a video is processing, its card shows the stage and a percentage. Processing usually takes a few minutes, depending on the file's size, and long recordings can take several hours. It carries on if you leave the page.

When processing finishes, the card shows Ready. If your browser allows notifications from Cecula Stream, you also get a Transcoding Successful or Transcoding Failed notification. You're emailed if processing fails.

Warnings on a Clip

Clips that can't be used on your channel aren't offered when you pick videos for playlists and schedules.

Media and Storage

Each video uses more storage than the file you uploaded: the original, its streaming versions at several qualities, a working copy for re-processing and, if you make one, an MP4 download. Together these come to several times the upload.

Open a clip to see how much storage it uses and what for. See How do I Manage Channel Storage?.

When the channel is nearly out of storage, Upload Media is disabled, with a note on how much is left.

Who Can Use the Media Library

Owners, administrators and editors can upload, edit, split, clean up, download and delete media. Viewers can browse and preview, but can't change anything. See Roles.
