How do I Split a Clip?
Splitting cuts a video into two clips at the moment you choose. It's useful for dividing a long recording into separate segments, such as the sermon and the music from a service.
The original clip stays exactly as it is. The two parts are added to your library as new clips.
Before You Split
- The clip must be Ready. It has to have finished processing.
- It needs its master copies. If they were deleted to free up space, re-encode the clip first. See Re-encode a Clip.
- The channel needs storage. Each part is a new clip, processed like an upload.
Split a Clip
- In the Media Library, click the video to open its preview.
- Play or drag the player to the moment you want to cut, and pause there.
- Under Actions, click Split into two clips. Split this clip opens.
- Check Cutting at. The first clip ends there, and the second begins there.
- If the time isn't right, close the dialog, move the player to the right moment, and click Split into two clips again.
- Optionally, name the parts in First part and Second part. If you leave them blank, they're named after the clip with (Part 1) and (Part 2).
- Click Split here.
The two new clips appear in your library and are processed. When they show Ready, you can use them.
Things to Know
- Exact cuts: the cut lands exactly where you paused.
- Length: each part must be at least 1 second long.
- The original stays in use: playlists, schedules and episodes that use it carry on using it. The parts aren't swapped in. Delete the original yourself later if you don't need it.
- Storage: each part uses its own storage.
