How do I Edit or Delete Media?

Open any clip in your Media Library to preview it, check its details, change its name, re-encode it or delete it.

Open a Clip

In the Media Library, click a clip's card. Its preview opens, with:

  • Player: plays the video, or shows the image. If the clip can't play yet, it says why, such as Not ready to play, Encoding failed or Preview deleted.
  • Name and description: with Recording or Upload and the clip's length.
  • Storage: how much storage the clip uses and what for.
  • Details: the Resolution, Frame Rate and Bitrate.
  • Audio Stream: the Sample Rate and Bitrate.
  • Noise Reduction: see How do I Clean Up Audio?.
  • Actions: the buttons below.

Re-Transcode VideoProcess the clip again. See Re-encode a Clip

Buttons only appear when they can be used. For example, Split into two clips appears only on a video that has finished processing.

Click Close Preview when you're done.

Edit Media Details

  1. Open the clip and click Edit Details.
  2. In Edit Media Details, change the Media Name, Description or Location. A name is required.
  3. Click Save Changes.

The name is what you see in the library and when you pick videos for playlists and schedules. A Catchup entry keeps its own title and description, so editing a clip doesn't rename its Catchup entries. See Edit Recording Details.

Re-encode a Clip

Re-encoding processes a clip again from its original file. Re-encode when:

  • The card says Needs Re-encoding. This usually follows a change to your channel's output resolutions or watermark.
  • Processing stalled or failed.
  • Parts were deleted. Re-encoding rebuilds them.
  • You changed noise reduction. See How do I Clean Up Audio?.

To re-encode:

  1. Open the clip.
  2. Under Actions, click the re-encode button. Depending on the clip, it's named:
    • Re-Transcode Video
    • Burn the channel watermark into this clip
    • Watermark is out of date - re-encode with the current logo
    • Encoded for the wrong resolutions - re-encode for this channel
  3. Confirm. The clip goes back to Queued, then processes again.

Things to know:

  • Watermarks are built into clips. A clip that plays from its streaming versions shows the watermark it was encoded with. After you change your logo, re-encode clips to show the new one.
  • Downloads are removed. Re-encoding deletes the clip's MP4 download. Generate it again afterwards.
  • You need the original. A clip whose original file was deleted can't be re-encoded.
  • You need storage. Re-encoding is refused while the channel is out of storage.

Delete Media

  1. Open the clip and click Delete.
  2. The dialog lists the parts of the clip, with the space each uses:
PartWhat it isIf you delete it
Downloadable MP4The MP4 copy generated for downloadingThe download stops working. You can generate it again whenever you need it
Streaming versionsThe clip at several qualities, ready to go straight to airOn a channel playing packaged clips, it drops out of rotation playlists and schedules. Re-encoding rebuilds it
Master copiesThe broadcast master kept for re-processing, and the preview. The thumbnail is keptNo preview, no Catchup playback and no new downloads. Re-encoding rebuilds them
Original clipThe file exactly as you uploaded or recorded itThe clip can never be re-encoded, so nothing else can be rebuilt. There's no way back
  1. Choose what to delete:
    • To free space and keep the clip, tick the parts you don't need and click Delete selected.
    • To delete the whole clip, click Delete all. If you've ticked every part, the button says Delete video.
  2. If Cecula Stream warns you about what the deletion affects, read it and confirm.

⚠️ Deleting can't be undone

Deleted parts and clips can't be recovered. Once a clip's original is gone, the clip can never be rebuilt.

Deleting a Whole Clip

Deleting a whole clip also:

  • removes its scheduled broadcasts. A broadcast of it that's on air now stops. Cecula Stream warns you: This video is currently used in … scheduled broadcast(s). Deleting it will stop those broadcasts.
  • removes its Catchup entries. The warning is This video is available in Catchup (… recording(s)). Deleting it will remove it from Catchup immediately.
  • clears your channel icon or poster if the clip is the image used for it.

When there's a warning, Confirm Deletion opens. Click Yes, Stop & Delete or Yes, Delete Anyway, or Cancel.

Deleting Some Parts

The clip stays in the library, and its card shows how many parts were deleted. Cecula Stream warns you before a deletion that:

  • leaves a clip used in schedules or playlists with nothing to play from
  • takes a clip out of rotation playlists
  • stops a clip playing in Catchup
  • removes the original for good

You can't delete parts of a clip while it's processing: This video is being encoded right now. Wait for it to finish, then choose what to delete.

To free space from recordings that never made it into your library, see Free Up Space.
